About the Event
Did you know today is the first day of the 12 days of Christmas ? When I first started the farm with my parents I so desperately wanted to know about small agriculture and how it was done in earlier times. I also discovered that which I already knew, it was a way of life.
The weather and the seasons determined what you would and would not do. As hard as man might try ultimately that has not changed. We still live-in and cannot stop the fast pace that swirls around the life of growing and raising food. Most notably marked at the holidays.
Without shopping and consumerism Christmas would signal the beginning of the holidays, celebrating the return of light. New Year’s was a non-day and ending on January 6, Epiphany, 12th night or the 12th day of Christmas.
I can’t stop the world, I do live in it and I am grateful for the much-needed revenue that comes from this time of year. My hope is that as the farm offers thoughtful gifts from very small artisans, made from scratch, real food, Christmas trees from our mountains and a place to come to that we contribute to the holidays in a slower and more thoughtful way.
I do work, and it was crazy. I worked with my small team on only five hours of sleep in 2 nights happily filling all of the orders. Christmas Day for me is the beginning of the holiday season, I love and celebrate the 12 days that follow, and ending with a celebration on:January 6, Epiphany, 12th night
